As Shays' Rebellion came to a close, George Washington realized that the Articles of Confederation did have some flaws.

He stated it as "weak" and "it was a stepping stone for recolonization by the British." Five of the states responded due to Virginia's persistent pleading and met for what is now known as the Annapolis Convention. This is where they made the decision to have a constitutional convention in Philadelphia. At the convention in Philadelphia the Congress got rid of the Articles of Confederation and created the U.S. Constitution.  The rebels attempt at stopping the government was taken into notice by many people. Their annoyances were reasonable but the entire rebellion threatened anarchy.  After the rebellion Shays had no home or farm to return to so he fled to Vermont. This is where he became an alcoholic and lived on the streets. Many of Shays men were found and were tried due to their crimes of rebellion and threatening anarchy. Many of the trials did not end up well for the men and they ended up having to be hung.
